Ladybug Nominee Profile

Have Fun Molly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell and illustrated by David Catrow shows us the wonderful toys and games that you can create by using your imagination (with a bit of grandmotherly inspiration). There is a video about the creation of this book on YouTube. David Catrow has a Teacher's and Librarian's Lounge on his website that includes some activities to use with students.

Among the things Molly Lou plays with are hollyhock dolls (check out this video about how to make one); a tin can telephone; and a a cardboard box racer.

This is the first book of Patty Lovell's to be nominated for the Ladybug Picture Book Award. David Catrow's work has been nominated before, including Ain't Gonna Paint No More, the 2006 winner.

This is one of the ten titles nominated for the 2013 Ladybug Picture Book Award.
