Walter Butts, NH Poet Laureate



Yesterday our state suffered a great loss with the passing of Walter Butts, our state poet laureate. He was a passionate advocate of poetry and as a member of the Center for the Book advisory board was an invaluable advisor and supporter of New Hampshire's book community. He will be missed.

Kyle Potvin, President of the Poetry Society of NH said in a message to her organization:  "Yesterday, we lost a kind and generous man as well as a true advocate of poetry, our dear friend Walter Butts.  As our NH Poet Laureate, Walter was tireless when it came to sharing and building appreciation for poetry in the state and beyond.  It is no surprise that in these last weeks, he was still on the road giving readings at our PSNH reading series in Concord and AWP in Boston. We are grateful for all his efforts – and will miss him greatly.  Our thoughts and sympathies are with his wife S. Stephanie and all his family and friends."
