NH Poetry: Cathedral of Nervous Horses

Elizabeth Knies, a past Portsmouth Poet Laureate, recommends Cathedral of Nervous Horses by the current New Hampshire poet laureate, Walter Butts, published in the Hobblebush Granite State Poetry Series, 2012.

"For several decades Walter Butts has chronicled his life in thoughtful, meditative poems in which the present and past are equally vivid. This volume of New & Selected Poems contains a generous sample of his previous work, some previously unpublished poems, and eight new poems of depth and beauty." --Elizabeth Knies

Elizabeth Knies was the Portsmouth Poet Laureate from 2007-2009. Her most recent book was Going and Coming Back, published by Oyster River Press in Durham, NH, in 2007. She lives in Portsmouth.

This post is part of our celebration of National Poetry Month 2013 for which I asked New Hampshire poets and booksellers to recommend books of poetry by Granite State poets. These titles are generally available from local booksellers and may be held in public libraries as well.

This appears to be Butts's first posthumous appraisal.
