DERRY, NH, July 6, 2016 – The Robert Frost Farm’s 2016 Hyla Brook Reading Series features New Hampshire Poet Laureate Alice B. Fogel on Thursday, July 14, 2016, 6:30-8:30pm. Hyla Brook Poet Sara Backer will also read.
The series, held
in the Frost Farm located at 122 Rockingham Rd (Rt 28), is free and open to the
public. An Open Mic follows the readings and all audience members are invited
to share their work.
Fogel’s
newest poetry collection, Interval: Poems Based on Bach’s “Goldberg
Variations,” won the Nicholas Schaffner Award for Music in Literature.
Her third book, Be That Empty, was a national poetry bestseller,
and she is also the author of the guide for readers and teachers, Strange
Terrain, on how to appreciate poetry without necessarily “getting” it.
She lives in Walpole, NH.
Joining Fogel is
Sara Backer of Hollis, NH. Backer, author of the novel AMERICAN
FUJI, has had her writing honored by two residency fellowships (Norton Island
and Djerassi) and six Pushcart nominations. Her poems have recently appeared
in Crannóg (Ireland), Strange Horizons, Gargoyle, The
Pedestal Magazine, Marathon Literary Review, Rust + Moth, Turtle Island
Quarterly, So to Speak, and many more. She will read from her chapbook,
BICYCLE LOTUS, which won the 2015 Turtle Island Poetry Award.
