New Hampshire Author Joseph Monninger Featured
on Cold River Radio Show at Theater in the Wood
Sunday, November 3, 7:00 p.m.

North Conway, NHWhite Birch Books, in conjunction with Cold River Radio Show, is pleased to announce that Joseph Monninger will be the featured author for November’s show, live on Sunday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m., at the Theater in the Wood in Intervale. Music, stories, books and a plain old-fashioned good time are keystones of this quintessentially New England variety radio show.
Monninger will delight audiences with stories from his latest book, Margaret from Maine, a page-turner that poignantly explores the dilemmas faced by those who serve our country—and the men and women who love them. Margaret of Maine is a love story for the ages of a couple brought together by war and separated by duty.
Monninger has published eleven novels and three non-fiction books.  His work has appeared in American Heritage, Scientific American, Readers Digest, Glamour, Playboy, The Boston Globe, Sports Illustrated and Ellery Queen, among other publications.  He has twice received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and has also received a fellowship from the New Hampshire Council for the Arts.
Monninger’s personal life has taken him around the world. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Upper Volta, now Burkina Faso, from 1975-77. He led student groups on bicycle tours across Europe, sailed the Whitsunday Islands near the Great Barrier Reef, and worked on community service projects in Montserrat, West Indies and on the Crow Reservation in Montana.  He has taken a mail boat across the southern edge of Newfoundland and, as a young man, hitch-hiked across the United States three times. He has been a licensed New Hampshire Fishing Guide and has fly-fished from New Zealand to Wyoming’s Wind River Range.
Monninger now lives with his wife, Wendy, and his son, Justin, in a converted barn near New Hampshire’s Baker River. For several years his family competed in the New England Sled Dog sprint races and ran a small sled dog business. Laika and Willow, two sled dogs, live in happy retirement with them.
The Cold River Radio Show features exclusively New England based artists, performers, authors and storytellers to introduce listeners to the unique culture of the Northeast. Hosted by musician and writer, Jonathan Sarty, and backed by the Cold River band, the program is recorded live before a studio audience at the beautiful, state of the art, Theater in the Wood, the show covers New England’s fascinating and mysterious history, way of life, and its most interesting characters.
