NH Poetry: The Work of Laura Davies Foley

The work of Laura Davies Foley was recommended by two separate New Hampshire poets.

"I would like to recommend Syringa by Laura Davies Foley, of Cornish NH. Published by StarMeadow Press. These spare poems of solitude and communion reflect the sky and the

human heart." --Nancy Lagomarsino

Nancy Lagomarsino has lived in Hanover NH since 1974. Her three books of prose poetry are titled Sleep Handbook, The Secretary Parables, and Light from an Eclipse.

"I recommend The Glass Tree, Laura Davies Foley's third poetry collection, which was released by Harbor Mountain Press, July 2012. This book  is both a widow's elegy for her husband and a record of her journey through grief to a new life . These crafted poems are lyrical, luminous, spare and full of news about the resilience of the human spirit.  I loved this book." --Patricia Fargnoli

Patricia Fargnoli, The NH Poet Laureate from 2006-2009 has published six collections of poetry.  Her latest book, Then, Something (Tupelo Press, 2009) won the ForeWord Magazine Silver Award, and was co-winner of The New England Poetry Club's Shelia Motton Award.

This post is part of our celebration of National Poetry Month 2013 for which I asked New Hampshire poets and booksellers to recommend books of poetry by Granite State poets. These titles are generally available from local booksellers and may be held in public libraries as well.
