Book of the Week #29

Conway, New Hampshire 1765-1997 by Janet McAllister Hounsell and Ruth Burnham Davis Horne (Portsmouth: Peter Randall Publisher, 1998)

Conway was the first White Mountain Township to be chartered and is, like many New Hampshire towns, a vacation destination thanks to its natural beauty. This volume began as a reissue of Conway Through the Years and Whither by Ruth B. D. Horne (Conway Historical Society, 1963) and includes most of the text of that volume. It has been substantially expanded, however and different illustrations and photographs were added. If you are planning a trip to Conway and want to know more about the town -- including who some of the local authors are -- this may be the book for you.

There are town histories for most New Hampshire towns, and you can find out about them, and read them, by visiting the Genealogy and NH History Collection at the NH State Library. The town records index (at the bottom of the Geneology and NH history web page) will tell you if the town you are interested in has a published history.
