NH Poetry: Earth Listening

Monadnock region poet Rodger Martin, whose latest book is The Battlefield Guide, recommends Earth Listening by Becky Sakellariou (Hobblebush Books, 2010)
"One only has to read the opening lines to sense this is a poet who understands language, who understands the senses, and understands the world.  Because her life has transcended two cultures (Greek and American) she has been able to integrate the linguistic perspective of both into her poetry." --Rodger Martin
Betsy Snider also recommended this title. Betsy Snider lives on a lake in Acworth, NH, writes poetry, and volunteers as a CASA Guardian ad Litem for abused and neglected children. She was published most recently in Love Over 60: An Anthology of Women Poets (Mayapple Press, 2010). Betsy is also a member of the NH Center for the Book Advisory Board.
"One of the best books of poetry I've run across recently is Earth Listening by Becky D. Sakellariou, published by Hobblebush Press (2010). Becky lives in Peterborough six months a year, and in Greece six months a year, and the poems in this selection are a wonderful, magical mixture of both places. Becky writes with such grace and power, it takes my breath away. Her vision of life and her connection to place are both firmly rooted in tough soil and yet spring from places that can only be imagined. As a bonus, the book includes a CD of Becky reading some of the poems. She is a gifted writer and a beautiful reader. If this is the only book of poetry you read this spring, you will be the richer for it." --Betsy Snider
This post is part of our celebration of National Poetry Month 2012 for which I asked New Hampshire poets and booksellers to recommend books of poetry by Granite State poets. These titles are generally available from local booksellers and may be held in public libraries as well.
