DERRY, NH, August 21, 2013 – The Robert Frost Farm’s 2013 Hyla Brook Reading Series Season presents its final event of the season with a reading by award-winning poet Alfred Nicol on Thursday, September 12, 2013, 6:30-8:30pm.  He will be joined by Hyla Brook Poet Melissa Juchniewicz.
The Reading Series, held in the Frost Farm located at 122 Rockingham Rd (Rt 28), is free and open to the public. An Open Mic follows the readings and all audience members are invited to share their work.
Nicol is this year's recipient of The Robert Frost Foundation Poetry Award. His book of poetry, Elegy for Everyone, published in 2009, was chosen for the first Anita Dorn Memorial Prize. He received the 2004 Richard Wilbur Award for an earlier volume, Winter Light. Nicol has collaborated with poet Rhina Espaillat and classical guitarist John Tavano in making the CD Melopoeia. His most recent publication is Second Hand Second Mind, a collaboration with his sister, the artist Elise Nicol (available at www.blurb.com). A member of the Powow River Poets since 1999, Nicol edited The Powow River Anthology, published in 2006.
Joining Nicol is Hyla Brook Poet Melissa Juchniewicz.  She has taught English composition and literature for 15 years at Northern Essex Community College and UMass Lowell.  Her volunteer work includes memoir writing workshops for the elderly, and costumed interpretation at the John Greenleaf Whittier house.  She is on the board of the Henry David Thoreau birthplace, and like Henry, grew up in Concord, Mass.  Prior to teaching, she worked at the Lyric Stage in Boston, and was a newspaper reporter and columnist.  She lives in Chester with her husband and has been a Hyla Brook Poet since 2010.
The Hyla Brook Reading Series Season runs annually from May through September.
The Hyla Brook Poets’ monthly writing workshop meets on the third Saturday of the month at 10am at its summer home at the Frost Farm.  The next workshop meets Saturday, September 21.
